Can Heavy Dose Of Antibiotics Cause Delayed Periods?
Hello, my period is 5 days late now and although it could be from conception although very unlikely since I had unprotected sex very soon after my last period, I was on a heavy course of antibiotics. Could this be a more likely sign of a missed period?
Hi, Thanks for writing to HCM. Delay in period is unlikely to be caused due to heavy dose of antibiotics. Since you had unprotected sex, it is better you need to rule out pregnancy. Hence, kindly get the following tests done. 1. Urine Pregnancy Test (UPT). 2. Serum for beta-HCG. 3. Transvaginal ultrasound scan (TVS). If these tests indicate pregnancy to be negative, then the delay in your periods could be due to stress or anxiety. Hence you can wait for sometime. If there is still delay, then you need to get tested for FSH, LH and Prolactin levels in serum and Consult Gynecologist for opinion and management. All the best.
