Can Herniated Discs Result In Pain And Numbness Of Legs?

When walking A slight pain and numbness begins in my calf. As I continue to walk the hip becomes involved. Eventually my leg from foot to hip loses all feeling yet I can continue to walk. As I continue to walk the feeling comes back. Have had a herniated disc for 20 odd years. was advised to live with it and have. Do you suppose this is the cause of losing feeling in my leg? If so should I just continue to live with this newer symptom or might I lose the ability to use the leg altogether?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you are wondering if herniated discs result in pain and numbness of legs . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like sciatica , but there can be other reasons also like neuropathy , herniated disc or vitamin B12 deficiency . I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan , MRI or physical examination . Doctor may prescribe muscle relaxant , vitamine supplement along with physical therapy and stretching exercises . For now do not do exercises , take complete rest and apply warm compresses to leg . Doctor may also recommend surgery in severe disc problem . For now take proper rest and keep your leg in hot water tub with epsom salt for 15 minutes .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
