Can Herpes 1 And 2 Be Transmitted Through Blowing Up Same Balloon?
my cousin has herpes 1 and 2. he blew up a balloon and let it go. i also blew up that same balloon too and he says that hes not sure if he had sores by then. this happened 2 weekends ago and he just found out yesterday. could it be transmitted this way?
Hello, This is Dr. Klarida Papaqako answering your question.
Yes, it can be transmitted that way. Of course the transmission depends on the fact if there were open sores in your skin and your friends skin, but also from the amount of the saliva on the balloon, and the time it passed from the moment that the viruses were spread. You should know that, Herpes simplex type 1, which is transmitted through oral secretions or sores on the skin, can be spread through kissing or sharing objects such as toothbrushes or eating utensils, razors, towels, ect. In general, a person can only get herpes type 2 infection during sexual contact with someone who has a genital HSV-2 infection. It is important to know that both HSV-1 and HSV-2 can be spread even if sores are not present.
Transmission of herpes infection occurs through exposure to virus either as the result of skin-to-skin contact or from contact with contaminated secretions , so there is possibility of spread by contaminated secretions .
