Can High Dose Of Metformin Cause Severe Lower Extremity Pain And Fatigue?

My primary care physician recently doubled my dosage of Metformin from 500 mg each morning and evening to 1,000 mg each morning and evening. For the past three weeks I have been experiencing severe muscular aching, tenderness and cramping in my lower body and extremities which is accompanied by extreme fatigue. The symptoms move among various joints of the area and the pain does respond to Ibuprofen and bed rest. I am 68 years and am still working full-time+ in a high stress occupation (accounting) and am finding it difficult to go to work each morning.Could this higher dosage be causing this condition? My on-line research indicates that it could. I am just miserable.Kindly respond to me at Thank you so very much.

yes Metformin at high dose could be giving you the aches due to build up of lactic acidosis in muscles
also remember both Metformin and Ibuprofen along with diabetes are harmful for your kidneys so avoid taking pain killers too.
so consult you doctor to reduce the dose and see if he could add another well tolerable class of drug for better control of blood sugars
