Can High Prolactin Level In Blood Cause Complications During Conception?
Hello Doctor,My name is shweta i am having irregular periods i had been to Dr she scanned and also asked to check on blood test the report says normal but the counts in prolactin is more i am trying for pregnancy this can become a reason which will not allow to conceive...?
Dear Shwetha, Welcome to HCM! I appreciate your concern towards the high prolactin level and inability to conceive. Increased level of Prolactin hormone (produced by anterior pituitary a gland in the brain) is referred to as Hyperprolactinemia.
Hyperprolactinemia inhibits the release of other hormones required for normal release of ovum during menstrual cycle.
Hyper prolactinemia is caused by the use of certain antipsychotic drugs and also by small tumors arising from pituitary gland. Sometimes the cause may not be found.
Consult your doctor to find out the exact cause and treatment to decrease the production of prolactin (using Bromocriptine or other related drugs) so as to stimulate the formation of hormones required for ovulation and hence the pregnancy.
I hope your question has been answered. Take care.
