Can I Get Detailed Information About Periventricular Leukoencephalopathy?
I would like to know where I can find detailed information about periventricular leukoencephalopathy. Is there a fondation or other group that has information for both health care providers as well as patients? Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
Hello Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy ( PML ) is a progressive disorder characterized pathologically by multifocal areas of demyelination of varying size distributed throughout the C N S. In addition to demyelination there are characteristic cytological alterations in both astrocytes & oligodendrocytes .When M R I reveals multifocal asymmetric , coalescing white matter lesions located in PERIVENTRICULARLY , in the centrum semiovale , in the parietal-occipital region, in the cerebellum it is called as periventricular leukoencephalopathy . These lesions are increased in T2 & decreased in T1 signal , are generally nonenhancing or shows only minimal peripheral enhancement , are not associated with edema or mass effect.. The information is very lengthy and taken from Harrison's internal medicine . Hope this information will be helpful in your case.Good luck.
