I have my copper t inserted about 2 month ago, the pain that Im having are similar to a contraction, is not even similar to just having a small cramp in a menstruation. How long it last, these reactions? it is that normal?
The most commonly used IUD is the Copper T 380-A. The Copper T 380A intrauterine device (IUD) is one of the most effective, long-acting reversible contraceptives available and provides enhanced contraceptive protection for up to ten years. The contraceptive effect offered by the Copper T 380A IUD is reversed when the device is removed. The insertion procedure takes only a few minutes and can be done in a clinic as outpatient procedure. Sometimes a local anesthetic is injected into the area around the cervix, but this is not always needed. A copper IUD can be inserted at any time, as long as you are not pregnant. You may experience some mild cramping and light bleeding (spotting) for 1 or 2 days after insertion. The copper T is indicated in women who have at least one child, are in mutually monogamous relationships; (IUDs do not protect against sexually transmitted diseases), have no history of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and choose not to use hormonal contraceptives.
Side effects include perforation during insertion, menstrual cramps and rarely expulsion where in copper T are pushed out (expelled) from the uterus into the vagina during the first year. These side effects decrease over time. Copper IUD use may also induce iron deficiency in some women; this condition may be treated with iron supplements.
