Can I Still Get Anti-rabies Shots Even Though Its Been Years After The Dog Bite?
Hi Doc! I've been beaten by our pet dog almost 8 yrs ago. Our dog had a vaccine but the vaccination is about to expire a week before I was bitten. I was also bitten by the same dog some months after. I didn't get any anti-rabies shots except some anti-tetanus shots. I heard that the incubation period could last for some years, and I just want to be relieved of the anxiety caused by this issue. The things is, can I still get anti-rabies shots even though its been years already? Thanks!
Hi..what you heard is right. The incubation period can go on for years. But as per any vaccine recommendations, the rules are the same here too. Get the vaccine shots of the missed vaccines at the first possible opportunity. I suggest you get your anti rabies shots starting from today after consulting your physician regarding the schedule. Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time. Further clarifications and consultations on Health care magic are welcome. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish your kid good health. Dr. Sumanth MBBS., DCH., DNB (Paed).,
