Can Inflammation In The Stomach Lining Be Indication Of Cancer?
Hi Dr. Rynne, Yes....I was recently diagnosed with HPylori and was given antibiotics several months back and also had a Upper GI and Colonoscopy done by my GI Dr, as I ve been experiencing stomach issues. My diagnosis was that I had inflammation of the stomach lining . I mean shouldn t this be a concern if cancer has been a major factor in my immediate family? Father - deceased/pancreatic cancer; 2 sisters - deceased 1(colon), the other gastric cancer. Thank you.
Hello and welcome to HCM, A family history of gastric cancer increases the probability of developing gastric or stomach cancer. Infection with H pylori leads to inflammation of stomach. However, very effective antibiotics are available which can control the infection and inflammation. Infection with H pylori is known to cause lymphoma of stomach. However, eradication of H pylori is known to reduce the incidence of gastric lymphoma drastically. Thus, treatment of H pylori with prescribed drugs followed by a regular follow up are required in future.
