Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have unprotected sex on 4 April. Then I took 2 tablets of postinor2 directly on 5 April in 20 hours after my unprotected sex... After that, i still dont get any spotting or bleeding. Then I become worried. So I took 1 tablet once again on 6 April and another 1 tablet on 7 April... Until now, 10 April I still don t get spotting or period. What should I do.?
Emergency birth control will cause irregularity in the menstrual cycle by either missing ovulation or by delaying it. You should commonly get bleeding per vagina after a few days or sometimes it may be a little more delayed depending on the hormonal balance and the irregularity of your cycle.
However, if you are already pregnant before taking the emergency contraceptive pill, then it will not work. It does not terminate pregnancy. In case of delayed periods you should take a pregnancy test to make sure that emergency contraception worked. Get clinically examined by a Gynae and get USG (Uterus and fallopian tubes) done to detect ectopic pregnancy or confirm pregnancy. You will be accordingly managed.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
