Can Intake Of Spironolactone With Metformin Cause Delayed Periods?
I have pcos had a pelvic ultrasound that showed 20 follicols on each ovary which wasn t anything abnormal for the condition and I was prescribed primolut to take for 5 days and was meant to get my period on the 6th day but nothing so I tried honey and 2 asprins which made me have cramps the next day but no period, a day later took the asprin and honey again and had a brownish discharge one would usually get at the ending of a period which only showed once and was gone by the end afternoon of that day and last night I took the asprin with the honey and parsley tea but it is now day 12 and no period but woke with menstrual cramps. What could be the reason for the delay still? I am taking regular metformin to help with my insulin resistance which it helped regularate my periods in the past but only difference with medication now is me taking spironolactone for high blood pressure

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, PCOD is a condition with imbalance of menstrual hormones, with ovulation problem. Primolut-N mostly causes withdrawal bleeding in a week of stopping the pills. You got the result late due to PCOD only. I feel you need a long course of contraceptive like Krimson-35 to have some relief. Please discuss with your treating doctor today about specific instructions.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
