Can Intake Of Antibiotics For Lymph Infection Cause Early Periods?
I ve been on a round of antibiotics for a lymph infection from a bug bite on my temple. For some odd reason my period has arrived over a week in a half early. I m not on birth control either. My periods are pretty regular so I feel this is related to the the antibiotics
There is no conclusive study to prove the link of antibiotics with menstrual cycle. However, one thing is very much known that flora of gut has an influence on the female hormones, therefore affecting the menstrual cycle. As antibiotics do have effect on the disease causing organisms as well as on beneficial organisms of gut and hence an effect on female hormones to affect the menstrual cycle.
The periods may be early in some cases, while may be delayed in others. How this happens, is not known precisely. Some of the antibiotics, work as xenoestrogen, which is a synthetic estrogen and hence increasing the estrogen level. Some antibiotics also affect the processing & filtering process of estrogen in the liver, affecting their concentration in blood &hence an effect on menstrual cycle.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
