Can Intake Of Plan B Post Unprotected Sex Prevent Pregnancy?

Hi there- So I have been on the birth control pill for 10 years (Yaz). This month, because I am going away on Sunday, I gave myself my period a week early by stopping my pills a week early. I got my period exactly a week early. It ended on Monday, which is the day I should have started taking my new pack of pills. However, I decided to wait a week because my refill at CVS won t give them to me early. I had unprotected sex on Wednesday. He pulled out. I took Plan B 16 hours later. I guess my question is, what is the likelihood I could have conceived? It s hard to find an answer because technically while on the pill I wasn t ovulating, but I was then off the pill for 9 days at that point. I had just had my period, but it was early induced so would I technically have been ovulating at that time? I am going to start my BC back up on Monday, is that okay seeing as I took Plan B on Thursday?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Emergency contraception is very effective and since you took it within 24 hours , it should work for you.

Generally , most forms are effective if taken within 72 hours but the sooner the better.

I hope this helps
