Can Intercourse Cause Yeast Infection In The Vagina?

I have a new partner and we have recently started having sex. Usually we use condoms but a few times we have not as i m on the pill, About a week after we last had sex my vagina became very prickly and sore, it almost feels like I have a prickly heat rash except its down below. My vagina is red and dry now & my discharge has dried up but when I checked myself down below nothing looks any different apart from being red. Also it does not hurt when I pee if that helps rule anything out. Do you think I should see a doctor or does this sound like a yeast infection? can sex cause a yeast infection? I have some vaginal mosturiser should that help? thanks.

Hi,

You seem to be having a condition called vaginitis which can be caused by many reasons like an infection, allergy, hormonal changes. In your case I do not suspect yeast infection as it is usually associated with a whitish curdy discharge. It could be some allergy to soap or detergents or even an injury to the area during intercourse. I would advise you to apply a lubricant or vaginal moisturizer. You can also get yourself tested for any infection at the same time and get treated if found positive.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
