Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had several problems with my menstraul cycle for many years. Recently I have been on my cycle for going on a month now. I am 25, I do want to have children in the future, I was wondering if my menstrual cycle problems will cause issues with me trying to conceive in the future.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern that you want to conceive. Your guess is right. Menstrual irregularities will cause delay in conception. This is because, it is difficult to predict when ovulation takes place. Even if by chance fertilization occurs, the uterus wouldn't have been prepared for implantation. Hence the chances of pregnancy is remote. The basic thing which should happen is having regular cycles. Hence, get your cycles right and it will improve the chances for you to get pregnant. Since one of the common causes for irregular cycles is Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD) and it is treatable to make you conceive, kindly get evaluated by Gynecologist and get managed accordingly. Hope the information provided is useful. All the best.
