Can Itchiness And Soreness On The Back Indicate Shingles?

Hi - my name is Katherine. I have wha I thought was a mosquito bite on my back. It is both itchy and sore as it would be if you scratch it. I have a sensitivity to mosquitos and cannot figure out how I would have gotten one on my left lower rib cage - it is on my back. It occurred to me that it might be shingles - what do you think? I cannot obviously see what is actually on my back however I will get a mirror and look.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms can be related to shingles. Shingles is usually characterized by blisters in the skin. In such a case, I suggest using antihistamines such as Cetirizine daily. I also suggest using Acyclovir cream for local application.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
