Can Itching And Antibiotics For Helicobacter Bacteria Be Related?

Hi, i have itching problem since two years, consulted three doctors, nobody seems to be sure what it is. One tablet of Zertec eliminates allergy for nearely three days. I had helcopakter (bacteria in stomach) just before the itching problem started, and had strong antibiotics (3 grams/day) for cure. Can it be related????

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
I understand your concern.
Like any other allergy producing substance ( allergen ), antibiotics for helicopacter can produce allergic reaction in susceptible user.. till it's effect in blood remains. (There is a limit to any medicine .. till which the effect of the medicines persist in blood )after the medicine is cleared out of system, the allergic reaction will not continue.
This nullifies the possibility of the antibiotic being the cause for your symptoms lasting for 2 years. Only possible thing is.. it had
stimulated your allergic response for the first time.. which started reacting to other allergens later on.
* now to manage it, you need to-
- To observe/ recognize & avoid substances causing the allergy.
- Use medicines to suppress the allergy ( like Zertec).. as & when required.
- get allergy testing done followed by desensitization with help of an allergy specialist.
thanks.
