Can Lack Of Oxygen Cause Memory Loss?

I have recently started having memory loss. I can t remember words that I know, and struggle with every day words. My blood pressure has always been low, if anything. I did suffer three COPD exacerbations last year, which landed me in the hospital (ICU) for a few days. The second time I was intubated, and the third (on Christmas Eve 2016), they used a BI-Pap to keep me alive until my O2 levels improved. Is the lack of O2 I suffered possibly causing this?

Hi,

Memory loss can be caused by various factors: Old age degenerative diseases of brain like Alzheimer, Parkinson's diseases. Our brain needs nutrients for healthy functioning.in case these are compromised it starts malfunctioning.

In case of shortage of oxygen and nutrients to brain it suffers from the condition called Hypoxia and this can have deleterious effects on brain where person feels: confused, dizziness, headache, blurring of vision and loss of memory.

COPD is a respiratory disease and it can overall lead to difficulty in breathing and supply of fresh oxygen to brain. Moreover disease is infective so it deprives body of nutrients in which brain which needs more energy and nutrients suffers. All these factors can lead to memory loss.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
