General & Family Physician, Dr. Dr. H Kay's Response
Hi,
It's unlikely that your wife will be able to breastfeed the baby due to the family planning operation she had in 2005. Family planning operations such as tubal ligation or hysterectomy can affect a woman's ability to produce milk. In addition, the hormones involved in milk production may have decreased significantly in the years since your wife had the operation.
However, there are other options available for the baby's feeding, such as formula feeding or donor breast milk. Formula feeding is a safe and effective alternative to breastfeeding, and there are many different types of formula available to meet the nutritional needs of infants. Donor breast milk can also be a safe option, as long as it has been properly screened and pasteurized.
It's important to discuss the options for feeding the baby with the baby's parents and a healthcare provider. They can provide guidance and support in selecting the best option for the baby's needs.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
