Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband who is 70yrs old woke up w indigestion, then shortness of breath so we called 911. 3 days later No blockage found w angioplasty but heart function 50%. Suggestion is meds. Could long term use of statins affect heart muscle? Could this contribute to lack of heart function and bring on shortness of breath( 3hrs to recover normal breathing after oxygen.) very anxious time.
There is no evidence based study that statins can cause heart damage. Instead, the use of statins has many benefits such as reducing the risk of heart attack and lowering the lipid level.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
