Can Low Blood Sugar Be Brought Back To Normal?

My son s father was taken to the ER on July 3rd he was told his blood sugar dropped dangerously low. Before you knew it they were inserting a breathing tube and he is now on life support. He has some eye movement, my question is there a chance he can recover from this? I forgot to mention through all this his heart stop beating, but they were able to get his heat pumping again.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It would depend on the length of time that his brain was without oxygen. If it was only a very short period of time then recovery is possible

In general if the brain is without oxygen for more than 5 to 10 minutes, it can cause severe and irreversible brain damage.
If he was without oxygen for this period of time then full recovery is unlikely.

I am sorry for any distress you and your family may be experiencing
