Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Masturbation Cause Apathy Or Severe Depression?
Hi This is a very private matter, I'm a female aged 24 and I'm wondering if masturbation causes feelings of apathy or severe depression, I am already diagnosed with depression and am on medication, I've been fine for the past few weeks, but have noticed a severe change in symptoms
I read your query and can understand your concern regarding masturbation. Masturbation is a normal physiological process which is done by both males and females and used as a substitute for sexual intercourse. It doesn't lead to any mental illness like depression, nor does it cause any physical weakness.
Regarding your depression, it can be completely independent and increase in severity can be dealt with modification in your medications. Since you haven't mentioned the name and dose of the medications, I wouldn't be able to comment on that. You should discuss regarding the same with your treating psychiatrist.
Wishing you speedy recovery. Best wishes.
