Can Mild Erectile Dysfunction Be Caused By Disc Herniation?
Hi. I am 29 and I have been having back complications since I was 21. I have had a l4-l5 surgery when I was 22 and my recent MRI results read as follows: Small to moderate right paracenteral disk herniation at l5-s1 level with mass effect in right lateral recess and minimal (0.3 cm) cephalad extension. I have been having minor muscle cramp feeling on my upper right leg and a mild pain on my back. I have been experiencing mild erectile dysfunction for the past couple days (less than 10 days). Could this be result of the herniated disk or could it be related to my general mood (with the pain and every thing or over thinking it)? Thanks for your advice in advance.
The erectile dysfunction in your case seems to be due to neurological cause secondary to a disc problem.
Moreover, stress also can affect sexual function. So you can consult your doctor to get a proper evaluation of neurological cause secondary to a disc problem.
It's advisable to check diabetes, hypertension, cardiac disease, the prostate problem as well through RBS, blood pressure measurement, EKG, USG pelvis like investigations.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Parth Goswami, General & Family Physician
