Can Mild Hernia Of Groin Cause Recurring Abdominal Pains?

I have a medium hernia, groin area, and periodically, have stomach pains...maybe once every two weeks or so. Discomfort goes away when sitting down and generally lasts 12 hrs or so. Could the hernia and this discomfort be related? I am 71 and in otherwise really good health, active, exercise, not obese...

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Mild to moderate size hernia may be responsible for the following symptoms such as:
- Discomfort or pain at the groin region during weight lifting, exercises, straining as coughing or else
- Increase discomfort during constipation or retention of urine
- Vomiting in case of obstruction
- Severe, agonising pain, fever when strangulation

The pain over upper abdomen and stomach does not reveal to be related to inguinal hernia.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
