Can Mononucleosis Be Diagnosed Through A Blood Test Report While Experiencing Fever, Sore Throat And Cough?

My 17 year old grandson has fever, sore throat, cough, fatigue for 5 days. He was seen in clinic Thurs. Strep flu testest negative. Mono test pending. WBC 3.8, lym 15.6,platelets 141.was seen in clinic today same results except abc 2.2, gym 2.2, platelets 64. He was given Z pack on first visit. they changed to Doxycycline today. Concerned about lab work.

Hi,

The gradual decrease in platelet count could be due to viral infection or dengue fever. Viral infection seems most likely in your case but dengue should be ruled out by NS1 antigen testing. Symptomatic management is done for your condition.

Drink lots of water and you can take more fruits for a speedy recovery. Vitamin C lozenges also beneficial in such case.
