Can Nausea, Headache, Distorted Vision After An Head Injury Need CT Scan?

Yesterday I had a minor head injury due to car accident. The next day my primary Dr. Referred me to ER to get cat scan. I experienced nausea & headache. Doctor did not check my head for any bumps and told that no pain pills would be given before I was able to let her know my Dr had referred me to ER to get CT scan. When I called my Dr. He asked that I go to his office. By that time I was crying. He wanted to refer me to other place to get CT Scan and I refuse. I told him ER Doctor said I was OK by just looking at me and with partial info I was allowed to provide .The problem is that I am seeing little black dots. Do I have something to be concerned about?

Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. You are having blurred vision along with headache. It could be due to headache only or might be due to severe head injury causing increased intracranial pressure. Diagnosis can only be confirmed after evaluating dangerous signs of head injury
: vomiting
: seizures
: bleed through nose/ear/throat
: onset of new focal deficit
: persistent headache or headache not responding to pain medicines
: loss of consciousness or decreasing consciousness
These signs appear with in few hours of injury and first 72 hours after injury is critical time. As you are conscious, oriented and able to move, it is good for you.

Regarding Ct scan of head, it should be done to find out skull bone fracture or clot in brain only if you are having persistent headache/blurring/nausea. But if your symptoms are subsiding after taking painkillers, you can wait and observe.

At home, you can apply icepacks at injury site, keep your head at higher level, avoid pressure at injury site.

Thanks. Hope it will help you. Take care.

I think with persistant nausea , headache & black dots >> you have to do CAT scan to exclude any occult bleeding .Thanks
