Can Nodules On The Thyroid Gland Cause Breathing Difficulty?

Yes. For about 5 years I have had trouble breathing. Not so much in my lungs but just swallowing air in my throat. I had my thyroid checked via ultrasound and I had 3 nodules. The endocrinologist wanted me to get them biopsies but was positive it was not the reason for my breathing in my throat issues. I got frustrated and never had the test done. I felt that it had subsided a bit but is bothering me again. I had another ultrasound and the nodules have grown. The biggest one is 3.5 cm. can this not be affecting my breathing?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Yes, if thyroid nodule grows it encircle trachea and will have difficulty in breathing. Better undergo biopsy and rule out malignancy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. C.ELANCHEZHIAN, General & Family Physician
