Can Non Exposure To Sun Cause Purple Lips And Constant Thirst?
Hello:
I writing because I am very concerned with someone who know. She is a woman between 50 and 55 years old. For several weeks or longer, maybe a month, she has purple lips and constant thirst, is not a lack of water or liquid, nor is exposed to the sun, since she is at home most of the time.
Hi ,Welcome to the HCM, purple lips can be sign of increased deoxygenated blood in the body. As when deoxygenated blood colour tends to be less red and purplish blue. As from right side of heart deoxygenated blood passes to lungs to be oxygenated so bright red in colour and comes back to left heart and distributed to whole body. Any lung disease which causes damage to lungs tissues can cause cynosis ( blue discolouration of lips or tip of nose ),some time cold weather can cause constriction of vessles so blue discolouration. To rule out the cause get an ECG and chest xray done , to be sure it is not heart or lung disease cause. As you already told that she remains most of the time at home so sunlight is less likely the cause. Regards, Dr.Maheshwari
