Can Oral Contraceptives Lead To Cervical Erosions?
I have been diagnosed with cervical erosions. i have had postcoital bleeding which let to me seeing my gp. My gp has told me that the oral contraceptive pill is the cause. I am 47 yrs old, weigh approx 60kgs & also take metformin for pcos. could i take the mini pill?
Yes, taking CP can lead to cervical erosion as it causes hormonal changes. It can be treated by hormonal therapy, it is better to discontinue oral CP. You are suggested to take any other birth control device after consultation with your OBGYN.
Since you are having bleeding / spotting after sex you are suggested to get Pap test done to rule out cervical cancer and also get STD tests done to rule out STI to stay on the safer side. Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected and your clinical condition. Cryotherapy or treatment by using ablation under local anesthetic is effective.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
