Can Over Dosage Of Medication Cause Any Harm?

Hi there, One of my children in care was prescribed Seroquel 400 mg at hs while admitted to a AMTC placement. However, when he was discharged from therel one the nurses misread the prescription and wrote 400mg X2 and the youth has been taking 800 mg of seroquel instead of the 400 mg for about a month. Can you please advised of any side effects?

Hi
Seroquel i.e.quetiapine fumarate is usually prescribe in psychotic disorder ,mood and anxiety disorder .
Usual dose gradually increases 450 mg /day ,however sometimes few psychiatrist increases this dose up to 600 mg /day without any side effects.
In your child case dose is 400 mg twice in day i.e. divided dosage .
In my opinion there is no any untoward effect ( as you noted till now ).
Since your child is taking this dose from one month so need not to worry .
Now just halve the dose i.e.400 mg / day.
Still you have any doubt consult your psychiatrist and get his opinion.
orthostatic hypotension with dizziness syncope, seizure are some side effects of this drug.
Good luck.
