Can Overdose Of Ambien CR Cause Inflammation And Soreness In Gums And Teeth?
Hi, Can an overdose of Ambien CR cause inflamed gums and sore teeth and gums? My wife experienced an overdose and has since had ongoing inflamed and sore gums with a complaint of "her teeth hurting with a film in her mouth". Could those symptoms also be caused by the stress and anxiety of the overdose?
As per your complain Ambien contains active ingredient Zolpidem that is an anti-psychotic medication and it is not frequently seen to cause sore gums, but it can cause dry mouth which in turn can cause sore gums and feeling of a film in mouth.
Alternatively, gum infection and infectious deposits over the gums can also cause gum inflammation and swelling in the gums leading to pain and discomfort. I would however suggest you to consult a Dentist and get evaluated and a he can do a thorough clinical evaluation and look for the exact cause of the problem and treat you accordingly.
In case if it is due to side effect of the medication, then dose reduction or changing the medication can help. In case if it is due to infection scaling followed by a course of antibiotics and painkillers along with topical gum paint application will help. As of now you can start applying a numbing gel containing Lignocaine over the teeth and gums to relieve pain. Do warm saline gargles. Gargle with antiseptic mouthwash solution. Use a soft toothbrush to brush your teeth and take a soft diet.
Hope this information helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thanks and regards, Dr. Honey Nandwani Arora
