Can Pain In Left Shoulder And Left Wrist Be Symptoms Of HIV?
My left shoulder and left wrist hurt. Does that mean I have HIV?? I went to the doctor and got a test taking and it came back negative but I heard that the antibodies don t show up until 3 months after exposure. I have been having some of the acute symptoms. Please help
Hello and welcome to HCM, Pain in left shoulder and left wrist are not characteristics of HIV infection. HIV infection is characterised by unexplained fever for one month, diarrhea for one month or unexplained weight loss of over 10% in last six months. HIV infection is transmitted by sexual contact with an infected person, by sharing needles with an infected person, from mother to child or needle stick injury. If any of the above mentioned symptoms are present or any of risk factors are present; HIV infection should be suspected and test for HIV should be performed. The ELISA test for HIV can be negative during window period. Thus, a negative test should be followed by repeat test after 3 months. Thus, you can get the test repeated after three months if you are suspicious of HV infection.
