Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi can you please tell me if taking paracetamol for flu could affect my period. I last had sex in January had two very very light periods then nothing this month. I am 43 years of age and had a bout of flu at the beginning of April and that is when I took the paracetamol.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Used in the symptomatic treatment of fever, headache, bodyache or toothache, Paracetamol is one of the safest medications. Generally it is well tolerated, its common side effects include allergic reaction which is very rare.
However, in larger doses it may cause liver toxicity. It does not affect the menstrual cycles. Irregular menses in your case could be due to hormonal imbalance, stress, emotional upset, change in dietary habits or certain underlying medical illness which need to be properly evaluated by your doctor by certain lab tests.
Hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
