Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was diagnosed with gastritis and I was taking penicillin before getting it. I started taking the penicillin because I had dental implants done. I don t know if I should take the penicillin anymore because of the recent gastritis, but I need it for my implant surgery. What do I do? I had some Drs tell me that penicillin is an antibiotic, and the Dr that diagnosed me with the gastritis said not to take any anti inflammatory medication because it will harm my gastritis. I have stiches all across my bottom gums because of the surgery, and I need to do something to stop the infection from coming. Isn t penicillin another form of an anti inflammatory? If so, I was told to not use anti inflammatories?? What do I do??
Penicillin is associated with the development of gastritis particularly when consumed oral route. However, when it is essential for the certain clinical conditions for pre and post operative conditions, it must be consumed under the coverage of proton pump inhibitor drugs.
Usual intake of Omeprazole or Pantoprazole with sips of water on empty stomach helps to prevent or control the issue of hyper secretion of stomach acid in such instances.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
