Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I want to skip my period this month! I am on Tri-Sprintec (tricyclic birth control.) I just finished the second week of pills (taken 14 pills so far). It is now February 25th...on March 9th, I am going to Cancun with my boyfriend for a week. This is unfortunate because I am supposed to get my period around that time! Should I stop taking pills now to induce a period early (does that work?), and just start a new pack on March 2nd, so that I’ll have a week of pills before having sex? OR should I keep taking my active pills and skip the inactive/placebo week by starting a new pack? If I choose this route, should I start the new pack on the third week(high level progesterone) or on the first week (I’ve heard this causes break through bleeding?) I’m a college student and it’s hard for me to get in to see a doctor and ask right now! Please help thanks so much!!
That OCP is exactly same as our body's hormonal fluctuations so you can skip the period. But keep in mind that safe sex is advised because if 14 days occurs then ovulation may have already occurred and fertilization can occur.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
