Can Pertussis,GERD And Difficulty To Swallow Be Signs Esophageal Stricture?

recently diagnosed with pertussis, also i have GERD. I have a constant urge to swallow and find it very difficult to do so. Have not slept through the night for three weeks. Constant anxiety of choking. Is it possible that i am suffering also from an esophageal stricture?

Hi,

Thanks for your short and specific query. I noted the history of recently diagnosed pertussis, GERD, that you have constant urge to swallow but find it difficult to swallow, not slept for 3 weeks, constant anxiety of choking. And you wants to know whether you are suffering from esophageal stricture.

As per the history you have provided, this looks to be pharyngeal problem as you have difficulty in swallowing. This can be easily diagnosed by the following:

First of all, go for Barium swallow and then upper GI Endoscopy. The further treatment will depend upon the reports of the investigations. Also go for the tests of blood, stool and urine, may sometimes find contributory so that it can be corrected. Pertussis may cause a problem in the pharynx hence causing difficulty in swallowing, this too can be diagnosed by the Laryngo-pharyngoscopy while doing upper GI Endoscopy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant
