Can Pinched Nerve Cause Back Pain And Numbness On Left Side Of Body?

I have been dealing with back pain for over a year now. I have tried physical therapy and many different pain meds and those for inflammation. over the past month the pain has gotten really bad. I have started to have loss of feeling on my left side all the way to foot. I have told my doctor numerous times there is something wrong, he keeps saying its my fibromyalgia and just raises my dosage on the gabapentin. I have started having awful pain in my head that doesn t go away and I feel like I am going to have a aneurism. the pain is so bad I can t sleep or hardly move. I finally saw a orthopedic doctor to follow up on my knee surgery and he is the on that let me know that I had a pinched nerve or herniated disc in my back. he ordered a MRI of my back but it seems to be taking forever and I was considering going to ER today because I am in so much pain and I have exhausted all my options to help with the pain.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* The unilateral pain lower back radiating to leg indicates most possible sciatica issue as lumbar neuropathy in usual cases.

* The MRI of the lumbar spine region is the diagnostic tool and get it at earliest time for best diagnosis and cure accordingly. Awaiting for your reversal with the MRI report whenever available.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
