Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I CAN T REMEMBER IF I HAD A PNEUMONIA SHOT OR NOT. ALTHOUGH, IF I DID IT WAS MANY MANY YEARS AGO. MY DOCTORS OFFICE IS SAYING IT IS TIME (65 YEARS OLD) TO GET A PNEUMONIA SHOT. THEY COULDN T FIND THAT I HAD ONE. I UNDERSTAND THERE ARE TWO SHOTS YOU TAKE NOW. CAN I OVERDOSE ON A PNEUMONIA SHOT? AND/OR SHOULD I START WITH THE FIRST SHOT OR SECOND. (IM ALSO PROBABLY OVERTHINKING) WHATS YOUR THOUGHTS?
Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends 2 pneumococcal vaccines for all adults 65 years or older. The schedule is as follows:
1. You should receive a dose of PCV13 first, followed by a dose of PPSV23, at least 1 year later.
2. If you have already received any doses of PPSV23, get the dose of PCV13 at least 1 year after the most recent PPSV23 dose.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
