Can Potassium Be The Cause For Shingles All Over The Body?

I am currently taking Potassium chloride crys fr 20 TBCR. One tablet twice a day. my heart doctor prescribed them because I am retaining fluid and taking 40 MG of furosemide o, one tablet twice a day. My question is that a couple days after starting the Potassium I started breaking out in a rash, it seems to be getting worse each day, my PCP doctor has diagnosed it as shingles, most of my body has from a few to large areas mostly in the area from my knees to my groin, it is very red bumpy with several spots of large watery sacks that burst and become scaly. Do you think that my condition may be caused from the potassium ?

Hi,

It sounds like you may be having an allergic reaction the the furosemide which is a sulfa compound. Shingles is strictly a one-side of the body rash, it is not widespread. I would recommend seeking re-evaluation and probably stopping both medications.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
