Can Protein Supplements Be Taken Post Radical Prostatectomy?
Are protein supplements ok to take post radical prostatectomy? I am supposed to be on a vegan diet since it is the only evidence based thing one can do to decrease the chance of a biochemical recurrence of the cancer per my surgeon. I am having a hard time getting enough protein in my diet. So protein supplements or branched chained amino acids seem like an alternative to me if they don t affect my cancer risk...... thank you
Rather than branched chain amino acids, it is better to take protein supplements from plant origin like legumes, nuts etc. Of course protein supplementation in no way affects your cancer recurrence.
Many studies suggest a periodic follow up of PSA levels. So, kindly also be in touch with the operating surgeon via regular follow up for a very early diagnosis and treatment of recurrence if any.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
