Hi my son is 2 years old. He has q trach and was diagnosed w prune belly syndrome caused by a blockage in his upper laryx trachea. He is having a lot of apnea episodes during his deep stage of sleep. My question is, could prune belly syndrome cause apnea?
Yes, there is a connection or the prone belly syndrome with sleep induced apnea. And this needs to be corrected by the help of a pediatric Physiotherapist. As some simple muscle activation techniques which are focused towards the respiratory muscles can help reduce the symptoms. Also, you should even make an effort that the child shouldn't get any illness in connection to the lungs like cold, cough etc.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
