Female age 42, 5 4, 200#. Swelling in lower extremities, less swelling when up walking verses sitting. Leg pain when I stand after sitting or laying and random pain in legs when sitting. Bruises on legs unresolved over years. Legs are EXTREMELY hot to touch when sleeping. Not uncomfortable to me, but my husband can feel the heat off of them. Elevated RA factor about 5 years ago. Sed rate was normal. Severe snoring, I suspect sleep apnea. Often have HA in the morning, especially if I sleep later than normal. Decreased hair on arms.

Hello,

You are suffering from swelling in the lower extremities, leg pain, bruises on legs, elevated RA factor. Swelling in the lower extremities is commonly suggestive of lymphedema, deep vein thrombosis, venous insufficiency, water retention, etc. It may be indicative of heart, kidney or liver disease or dysfunction.

Bruising on the legs may be due to vitamin deficiencies, such as those of vitamin K and vitamin C, inherited bleeding disorders (hemophilia or von Willebrand disease), heavy alcohol use. RA, OA, DVT, muscle sprain/strain, stress fracture, tendinitis can cause pain in the legs.

You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, get blood tests, imaging tests & other required investigation done to detect the pathology causing you symptoms. You will be treated accordingly. In the meantime, you are suggested to Take Acetaminophen / Combiflam, one stat when pain, after food to get relief. Avoid sedentary lifestyle, avoid sitting or standing at the same place for a prolonged period of time.

Avoid, smoking, doing drugs or alcohol as they may trigger your symptoms. Include anti inflammatory food in your regular diet. Take home made nutritious food avoid packaged or processed food. Do regular exercises and walking in the morning and evening. If obese maintain healthy weight.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
