Can Seizures Be Permanently Treated?

my son has multiple seizure which last for 2-3 seconds and used to have multiple times in a day.. this was diagonized when he was 7 months old and he was put of Epilex and it did worked well. We stopped when he was 15 months old on advice of doctor and after doing EEG as reports were normal.. but it came back with lesser frequescy after 4 months and EEG shows he has little sizers with 4-4 fre... is it serious.. He is put back on Epilex and docter has advised to continue for two years.. My question is since he dont have any seizure while on madication can it be treated permanently and how long we need to use and its side effects
