Can Severe Arthritis And Bursitis Be Treated Non Surgically In An Elderly Person?

I am a 78 year old lady with knee problems. Severe arthritis diagnoses, bursitis, meniscus abnormality and baker s cyst behind knee. These were diagnosed as a result of a recent MRI. Can these difficulties be treated with normal physio and medications, or do think that surgery is the only option.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

If the meniscus is torn then surgery is needed but if this is not the case then treatment of the knee issues with physiotherapy and pain medications can be an option.

If you are using an NSAID (ibuprofen, naproxen, ketoprofen etc) then you need to protect your stomach by using it only with meals and also possibly with meds such as nexium, prilosec, prevacid.
There are also other types of pain medication that may be used as well.

I hope this helps
