Can Sexual Abuse Cause Rectal Prolapse?

I am a special education teacher who attended a committee on special education meeting yesterday for an out of district student who was placed in a residential school. His classification is Other Health Impairments which include Prader-Willi-Syndrome, Autism and other mental health issues. The mom alleges that he was sexually abused at both locations. She stated that he had rectal prolapse as well. Is this condition related to the alleged sexual abuse? This is an otherwise, healthy 18 y/o male.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi. welcome to 'Ask A Doctor service' . i have read your question and here is my advice.
Sorry to hear of his sufferings. Rectal prolapse itself is not a sign of sexual abuse , and it cannot be said only on having this. However if there is any suspicion of sexual abuse, you can always ask for a more detailed examination of him by a forensic specialist who may better assess if he has been abused or not. But prolapse it self does not mean that .

Hopes i have answered your question. I will be delighted to answer any further queries regarding this issue.

Regards
Dr Rahman
