Can Sinus Infection Manifest Without The Usual Symptoms?

I have been diagnosed with chronic pansinusitis about 3 years ago and have struggled with various symptoms, mostly during the winter months. Just last month, I went to dr with pressure in chest and just a general malaise. I ve had chest X-ray and ct which were both clear. I was referred to cardiologist and have had an EKG and stress test which were also normal. Ive had my cortisol and adresnals checked but amnstill awaiting results. I also have an appointment with a gi dr. My question is: can I have sinus infection without having an abnormal white count and without having the usual symptoms of an infection. I have a pressure behind my nose with some tingling sensations and a whooshing in my right ear when I bend over. I still have pressure just under my throat behind my sternum and feel the need to cough but its unproductive mi just feel like crap and constantly feel like I m coming down with something but never do. I spray a nasal spray 2x per day and steam daily. I feel my ent is missing something.

Hi...Chronic sinusitis means a longstanding inflammation of the sinuses which generally increases during the winter months. Typical symptoms like fever with headache and raised blood counts are more prominent in acute sinusitis. Chronic cases generally have a feeling of illness, a bad smell inside the nose, heaviness in the area of the sinuses, dull headache, difficulty in breathing, ear pain etc. This has to be confirmed by a CT Scan of the nose and sinuses. If you are experiencing these symptoms , you may be having chronic sinusitis.

Your other problem of having pain in the chest associated with irritation in the throat may be due to acid reflux since more serious causes have been already ruled out by EKG and CT scan. You can try a course of Pantoprazole/Lansoprazole in empty stomach for a month. If you are not relieved you can see a gastroenterologist.

Wish you the very best of health
