Can Sore Throat And Cough Cause Loss Of Sense Of Taste?

Hello, About 40 days ago, I had a terrible cough, sore throat, and my nose was dried up. It took about 3 weeks to get over it. I took a z-pack for 7 days. That helped a little but wasn t enough. After it finally went away, I find that my taste buds are not working. It has been 3 weeks now. What should I do?

Hello,

I can understand your concern. As you suffered a severe episode of upper respiratory tract infection, it can cause loss of taste sensation or impaired sense of taste.

As the respiratory tract infection is subsided, you will regain your taste sensations in about a week to 2 weeks.

In addition, you should keep good oral hygiene which will help in sensing taste better.

However, if the condition is not improved in 2 weeks, you should visit a dentist for clinical examination of the tongue regarding taste buds problem.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
