Can Stabbing Pain In The Back Indicate Pinched Nerve?

Hi, I have had back pain like a stabbing pain in my back more on the right hand side and I can also feel it in the front of my leg. Its been there for approx 4 weeks now and not getting any release. Could this be a pinched nerve. Anti Inflammatory have not helped. I get stabbing pain when I sit or stand, when I lay down it seem to subside a little. Hope you can answer my question. Cheers Paula

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
As per your explanation of problem, it seems it's a neuropathic pain. Stabbing pain radiating towards legs suggests nerve root compression. To decide level of nerve root compression you need to do MRI whole spine.
You should consult Neuro-Surgeon or spine surgeon for thorough clinical examination and treatment or remedy. Usually such kind of pain does not subside by simple analgesics.

Thanks & Take Care,
Dr. Suraj D.
