Can Statin Drug For Elevated Triglycerides Cause Elevated Level Of Liver Enzymes?
Hello, I recently had my labs done and this one showed elevated liver enzymes. ALT=101 AST=87 I do not drink alcohol or have hepititis. I have been taking Atorvastatin 10mg for the past 18mos and another statin drug before that to bring my Triglycerides down from the high 200 s, now they are 163. The Hdl & LDL are WNL. I don t have any other big issues. My Dr. wants an ultra sound right away and it scared me. I stopped taking the statins and spoke to a local pharmacist over the weekend about it. He said all the statins drugs can cause high liver values. Is this somthing I should be concerned about and is the US the 1st thing you would order? Thank you for your help :)
Statins are not likely to cause raised liver enzymes. The liver enzymes are mildly elevated. Fatty liver can cause raised liver enzymes. Ultrasound abdomen can help to determine the status of liver. Fatty liver can occur due to diabetes mellitus, malnutrition etc.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
