Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Stent Insertion Cause Heart Attacks Or At The Worse Death?
I have had two heart attacks in the past. I am 33 and have three stents. In one day i will be having another stent put in. For some reason i am nervous about having the new stent put in. Has anyone died having a stent put in? Also, can a heart attack happen while a stent is being put in?
Dear Sir Thanks for writing to us. I am sorry to hear that you had so much of morbidity at such a young age. Both your concerns are true. There can be a heart attack during the process of angioplasty and a patient may die of the complications of procedure. Overall risk of death is less than 1% while a heart attack may occur in 3-5% of individuals. This is a small but real risk. Your treating cardiologist will explain you all this in detail before doing the procedure. Sincerely Sukhvinder
